Maude Andrieux

Maud Andrieux is an actress, stage director, and author.

For nearly 20 years, she has traveled the world adapting the novels of Marguerite Duras for the stage.

Born in Versailles, she began studying theatre at the age of seven. After completing a literary baccalaureate with a theatre specialization in Aix-en-Provence, she pursued theatre studies at university and entered the National Regional Conservatory of Bordeaux. She chose to work with committed directors on several contemporary productions. She appeared in a number of small roles on television but stepped away from that path to create her own theatre company in 2005, the Cie du Barrage.

She adapted Marguerite Duras’s novel Un barrage contre le Pacifique for the stage, marking the beginning of an international career. The production premiered in Saigon, where it was performed as part of a tribute organized by the French Embassy. She then toured the show to the Angkor temples in Cambodia, Turkey, Morocco, and beyond. Following her adaptation of Marguerite Duras’s novel Le Vice-consul, which she performed in Paris, Calcutta, Chandigarh, and New Delhi in 2014 for the Duras centenary, she was appointed Artistic Director of the Itinerant Marguerite Duras Theatre (www.theatremd.com). From 2014 to 2019, she curated and hosted companies each year presenting works inspired by Duras.

Since 2017, she has returned to screen acting and has joined the cast of feature films and television series for Netflix, TF1, and France Télévisions.

In 2019, she performed two original productions in Angkor, Cambodia. In 2020, she turned to screenwriting and co-wrote two short films.

In April 2022, she returned from an East-to-West Canadian tour organized by the French Embassy in Canada with the production La douleur by Marguerite Duras. During the 2020 lockdown, she adapted Marguerite Duras’s film Son nom de Venise dans Calcutta désert for the stage and embarked on a fourth tour of India in March 2023, performing in Delhi, Mumbai, and Madras. She was again programmed in English-speaking Canada in 2024 with the production Le Vice-consul. She is currently preparing a new tour for 2026 with Un barrage contre le Pacifique, scheduled to be presented in seven Canadian cities.
