Paulo Ramos was born into a family of musicians in São Paulo. A singer, guitarist, and songwriter, he began playing percussion at the age of ten. Arriving in Montreal in 1986, he formed the Paulo Ramos Group with Dan Gigon on bass and Yves Gigon on drums. Zig-zag (1988) and Futuro (1991), the group's first two albums, received rave reviews in both Los Angeles and Tokyo. In 1996, the group performed in front of more than 50,000 people at the FIJM. In 2002, Paulo recorded Brasil em Fevereiro, co-produced with Francis Collard. He produced Fragil Felicidade himself, recorded in Montreal and Rio in 2006. In 2011, he won the Prix Éval-Manigat for Multicultural Song, awarded by the SPACQ Foundation. In 2014, he released a compilation album of gems from his repertoire. In 2022, he co-produced a ninth album, Lua Vermelha (“Red Moon”).
