Sanza Percussions and Sadio Sissokho is an acoustic music project featuring the kora.Juno award-winner Sadio Sissokho was born in Senegal into a family of kora players. During their concerts, audiences will discover Sadio's intricate kora solos and soaring vocals, accompanied by two players of the sanza, the African thumb piano, and the traditional percussion of the calabash. The two sanza players, Trevor and François, have created a polyphonic style, rich in harmonies and counter-melodies, and the rhythms of the calabash and cajon build the rhythmic energy of this ancient music. The group collaborates with jazz saxophonist Bryan Highbloom, who also plays the sanza. This new project, Afro-Jazz, explores the blending of two great improvised musics, Mandingo music and jazz.
