Pierre Paul Makoumbé, a professional percussionist, composer, and performer born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, trained with the Grand Sanba, experts in traditional Haitian music. His music, which he calls Radah, draws inspiration from ancestral African rhythms and conveys a positive message of love, justice, and peace through percussion. In Montreal since 2000, he has participated in numerous international festivals such as the Festival du Mois Créole, the Montreal International Jazz Festival, and the Montreal International Reggae Festival. As the founder of the Zikingkow group, he is recognized as a major artist in the reggae world, bringing a fresh breath through his unique groove, Radah. His music reflects Haitian culture linked to African culture, incorporating influences like the Nyabinghi from Uganda. Makoumbé has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Wycliff Jean, Lauryn Hill, and collaborated with various local and international talents. The Zikingkow group, praised for its impact on the reggae scene, is described as bringing a fresh breeze to the music world, notably at the Calgary International Blues Festival.
