EL SON SONO

Founded in Montréal, El Son Sono is first and foremost a family affair. Élodie and Tito, a brother and sister of Peruvian and Québécois parentage, showcase South American beats. Their love of traditional compositions fits perfectly with the opulent styles of their musicians, who come from very different musical backgrounds. They all emphasize string instruments and jazz accents, leading us with disconcerting ease into a world that is both folkloric and urban, moving between Peruvian waltzes, rumba, cumbia, festejo and salsa. They owe their interest in music and their knowledge of Peruvian culture to their father. Élodie and Tito retain the Francophone influences of their Québec childhood, with which they embellish their original and highly danceable creations. Winner of the 2019 Syli D’Or of world music, the group is putting of its growing fame to good use, presenting an unexpected palette ranging from acoustic sensibility to traditional Québécois music, together with brass-enhanced Latin beats. Their début album, Paso a Paso, highlights this formidable melting pot, which has drawn the attention of the Conseil des arts de Montréal and of Vision Diversité’s MUZ showcase. The happy recipient of the CAM-MUZ Coup de cœur award, El Son Sono saw its artistic ambitions take further shape in 2019. With the quality and energy of their performances, these seven musicians enjoy a reputation that is sure to be recognized on the stage of the Incontournables series.
