The son of a griot, Aboulaye Koné discovered music within his family in Burkina Faso. In his homeland, he accompanied several major African stars. In Canada, he is recognized as a master of Mandinka music. A versatile artist, he has been a member of ensembles led by François Bourassa, Sébastien Lacombe, and KIZABA. Aboulaye Koné has performed more than 700 times on stages around the world with his original compositions,including in the children’s play Baobab, which won a France-Culture award for audiobooks. 

His own group, Bolo Kan, won the Syli d’Argent and Syli d’Or awards for world music in 2008 and 2009, respectively. In 2012, his debut album “Afo Gné” was nominated for a JUNO Award in the Best World Music Album category. Recently, his sons (Aboubacar Sidiki, Lou-Gaël, and Taïrou) have been joining him on stage, demonstrating, time and again, the vibrant vitality of West African griot tradition. In Montreal, Aboulaye Koné is a humble artist—but practically a legend!
