FRANCOPHONIQUE

The Small, Yet Long and Complex Story of Alberta's Francophonie — Told Through Poetry and Song

As part of the ACFA's 100th anniversary celebrations, La Cité des Rocheuses and FrancoMusik Alberta are proud to welcome you to the world premiere of Francophonique on September 18, 2026.

Experience an immersive production that celebrates the history, memory, and identity of Alberta's Francophone community through a unique blend of theatre, music, and personal stories. On stage, three actors and four musicians bring to life the defining moments of our collective journey. Within a minimalist set, original songs performed live intertwine with archival images projected on a giant screen, creating a dialogue between past and present where generations recognize themselves in one another.

Neither a history lesson nor a nostalgic look back, Francophonique is a deeply human, funny, and moving performance. It feels like a reunion for Francophones and an inspiring discovery for everyone else (performed in French with English surtitles). As Jim Corcoran reminds us, "A living language is a language that is sung."
