Synopsis

A period drama inspired by a true story, The Jan Bojarski Affair recounts the extraordinary fate of a young Polish refugee who became postwar France’s most prolific counterfeiter, earning the nickname “the Cézanne of counterfeit money.”

For more than fifteen years, Jan Bojarski led a double life unknown to his family. Working alone in a small shed at the back of his garden, he produced forged banknotes of such exceptional quality that they appeared even more authentic than those issued by the Bank of France.

Throughout those years, this master counterfeiter repeatedly outwitted the police and became the sworn enemy of Commissioner Mattei. What followed was an intense manhunt that, fueled by the obsessions of both men, gradually evolved into a personal duel.
