Do you know the Irish cemetery?
Explore the moving history of the Irish cemetery in Pointe-Saint-Charles. This emotionally charged site is the final resting place of those who fled the famine in Ireland in 1847. The Potato Famine led to an unprecedented wave of immigration, driving over two million Irish citizens to make their way to North America.
In this lecture, you will delve into the mysteries brought to light during recent archaeological digs relating to the construction of the REM (Réseau express métropolitain) project, which revealed a large part of this major historical site. Come honour the memory of the Irish immigrants and explore a little-known part of our heritage.
Marine Puech
Marine Puech holds a master’s degree in anthropology from the Université de Montréal, specializing in bioarchaeology. From 2011 to 2023, she worked for the firm Ethnoscop, carrying out inventory and dig projects, mainly in urban settings. In 2023, she joined Hydro-Québec as an archaeologist and environmental expertise advisor.
