Indian classical music has been conceived to appeal to the subtlest elements of our consciousness; this ancient art imbued with refinement aims to transport the listener to a mental state where all thoughts dissolve to give place to the beauty of the present moment. The sitar, among the most popular instruments in this genre of music, is known in western countries due to the efforts of the late Pandit Ravi Shankar and his association with other great musicians such as Yehudi Menuhin and Philip Glass, not to mention George Harrison who considered him the God Father of World Music. Partho Bose belongs to the same school (Gharana) of music, i.e. the Maihar Gharana. This evening, he is accompanied on tabla by the brilliant young percussioniste Indranil Mallick who is known to Canadian audiences through his great accompaniment in the past with many other musicians.
