Alan Côté, Les vents de travers
Self-taught singer-songwriter Alan Côté has been in the music business for over 40 years. Co-founder of the Café de la Vieille Forge in Petite-Vallée, in his grandfather's old blacksmith shop, he is best known as the mastermind behind the Petite-Vallée Song Festival. Throughout all these years, however, he has never stopped writing songs. After giving us Chercher son ours in 2009, he is back with Les Vents de travers, an album that speaks of resilience and love; love for his loved ones, of course, but also for the significant people who have shaped his life, inhabited his homes and his imagination.

Pianist, composer and teacher, Mathilde Côté is a versatile musician. She received her training in piano and composition at institutions such as the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and the Université de Montréal before going to study with masters in Quebec and Germany. Coming from the family of the Petite-Vallée song festival, she has been immersed in this art form since she was young. In 2020, she took over from her mother, choir director Danielle Vaillancourt, as director of La Petite École de la Chanson. Mathilde works as an arranger and pianist in Quebec and elsewhere, collaborating notably with vocal ensembles (Les Voix Ferrées, Les Nanas, Les Voix du Large and the Extravaganza ensemble) and chamber music groups (Esca, Choros). She also composes instrumental works that have been performed across Canada, in the United States and in Europe. She is currently working on her first opera, The Night Is My Wife, in collaboration with the slam poet Ivy, who is developing the libretto based on the work of the French-American writer Jack Kerouac. (reference: levivier.ca) Mathilde is also working on a musical and theatrical work on the life and work of Suzanne Guity, a sculptor and painter born in New Richmond, but who spent a large part of her life in Percé.
