Lydia Capperton
Lydia Clapperton is a composer and pianist now based in Rimouski. Sinceher first piano lessons at the age of 7, music has always been essential in his life. She graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Music – Piano Performance. In 1999, she participated in the Festival en Chanson de Petite-Vallée where she won the public prize for her composition. She then chose the path of education and devoted her professional life to teaching young people in primary schools in Saguenay. Nevertheless, music remains at the heart of her being and she has never stopped composing melodies on the piano. Today, drawing on her past experiences, Lydia devotes herself to composition and music full-time.
In 2022, Lydia launched her first album, fluviale. Since then, she has gained greater recognition in the local music scene. She notably performed at the 2024 Saguenay Jazz & Blues Festival, during concerts at the Maison de la culture du Pic-Champlain or during a literary tea at the Jardins de Métis. More recently, she won the album of the year award at GAMIQ 2024, classical music category, for her second album Lumière dans la forêt. Last March, Lydia released her third album called des semis et une marguerite.
Her style is defined by colorful melodies, skillful contrasts between softness and luminous intensity, as well as subtle variations in themes. Immersed in emotion and sensitivity, her compositions lean towards impressionism or post-romantism, with hints of jazz.
Lydia is inspired by the beauty around her and her spiritual reflections on life and nature. A native of Grande-Rivière in Gaspésie, she draws great inspiration from the St-Lawrence river, which has always rocked her.
