La Nuit émergente’s iconic annual posters are full of apocalyptic imagery, invading aliens, shadowy monsters and ferocious beasts. Our fans know it’s meant to say that our emerging musical performers are very impressive. Basically, it means: Oh!

But this year, there’s something else you should know. We’ll be facing the beast in the form of culinary and sensory delights as well. Oh?

Every year, this being the eleventh, La Nuit émergente presents a musical event like no other. We specialize in the unique. Our discoveries amaze and energize. Musically, that’s still our menu. But now, check out our side menu.

This year’s festival transforms the Place des Arts’ spaces with elements of visual, acoustic and culinary ambience. Bright beacons at the doors. Sofas for lounging and chatting under soft lights. Vintages and victuals showcasing local products and flavours. The black box studio turned rousing red. And a popcorn machine, of course.

In the halls of Place des Arts, you’ll be in the lair of the beast. And you’ll feel right at home.

La Nuit émergente des tout-petits :

Childcare on site!

Kids need not beware in the lair of the beast! Dads and moms, treat yourselves to a night out, no babysitter needed. There’s a lovely childcare centre right on site, called Place des tout-petits, on level 2 of Place des Arts. We’ll welcome 15 kids for their own little festive event, with crafts, snacks and, if the weather’s nice, playtime on the terrace.

P’tit Belliveau

As they say in Baie-Sainte-Marie, this guy is wellment bon. English words often pop up in Acadjonne French, so you might get the gist of P’tit Belliveau’s down-to-earth views on life: get gas for the Ford Focus to get to work; be okay on the quay watching boats in the bay. He’s a simple man’s musician as well, with a catchy minimalist country-folk sound that has a good old cassette player vibe. He’s Everyman, yet he’s like nobody you’ve ever heard.

Soleil Launière

She’s a multidisciplinary artist, an Innu from Mashteuiatsh, a Radio-Canada Revelation and a winner at Francouvertes 2024. Her debut album in 2023, Taueu, explores themes of identity, language, womanhood and matriarchy in songs that combine strong harmonies and percussions with elements of performance art. Now she’s back with a new soul-roots project that delivers a bold, fascinating, exciting and heartfelt experience.

Ponteix

They bear the name of a quiet village in Saskatchewan, but they carry the compelling groove of a sophisticated metropolis. Their polished sound is a masterful mélange of exciting electro-psypop, woeful RnB and energetic indie rock. It’s a sound with a flair for our times that’s easy to get into. There must be something in the Prairie air. We loved Étienne Fletcher at the 9th Nuit émergente and now, here comes Ponteix.

Kora Flamenca

It’s a LatinAfrican fusion as the kora, a 21-stringed harp, partners with the flamenca guitar. And it’s a virtuoso affair. Zal Sissokho carries the memories of the Mandika people with his impressive improvisations and captivating voice. Caroline Planté has an outstanding career as a pioneer in an art form long reserved to men only. Together, they transcend genres, borders and barriers. Their debut album was crowned best world music album at the ADISQ and Canadian Folk Music Awards.

McLean présente Picaroon

Somewhat like rock opera, this impressive multimedia concert explores Picaroon’s inner world as he surveys the outer world from the confines of his room. Lighting effects and projected images transform this space into a kaleidoscope of inhabited emotions: a desert island, a run- down room, an abandoned mine. There is discomfort and despair, but also vitality in facing nothingness with acts of creation. With stage direction by Robert Bellefeuille and his band (including two drummers), Mclean revitalizes songs from all of his albums to date and particularly “Anonyme” released in late 2023.

Olivier Palkovits

Green Jaguars is the latest incarnation of a multidisciplinary artist who reinvents himself by embracing new genres. The leader of art-punk band Will Powers leads us now into a world of sound immersion, electronic improvisations and explorations in micro-rhythms, micro-harmonies and micro-tones. In programming synths and sequencers, he has the touch that opens portals onto primal sensorial experience. It’s the feeling of being fully present to a moment wrapped in newfound sound.
