The Ukrainian National Federation, CKUT, and Cirka Distilleries present Ukr-Aide: A Benefit Concert for Ukraine. All funds raised will go to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation/Ukrainian-Canadian Congress’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, to support humanitarian efforts for people impacted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine (www.cufoundation.ca). 

Acts will include indie-folk sensation The Barr Brothers, klezmer-hiphop artist Socalled, Slav dub-punk group Dumai Dunai, and Ukrainian folk quartet Murmurosi. Cocktails by Cirka Distilleries. 

Doors and bar open at 6pm, show begins at 7:30. Tickets are $30 in advance, $40 at the door. There is an option to pay more if you are able, but all tickets are general admission. Vaccine passports will not be required, masks will be mandatory due to the mask mandate having been prolonged until the end of April.

The Barr Brothers

The three-time Juno-nominated indie folk band consists of brothers Andrew (drums, percussion, vocals, keyboards) and Brad Barr (guitar, vocals), as well as bassist Morgan Moore, pedal steel guitarist Brett Lanier, and harpist Éveline Grégoire-Rousseau. The band tours frequently in the United States, Canada and Europe, and has twice appeared on The David Letterman Show. In 2018, they won ADISQ's Félix award for Concert of the Year - Anglophone and were nominated for four other awards, including Album of the Year - Anglophone, for their 2017 album Queens of the Breakers

Socalled

Josh Dolgin, aka Socalled, is a twice Juno-nominated Montreal rapper, klezmer musician, and record producer with Ukrainian, Romanian and Russian roots. . He has played Carnegie Hall twice and collaborated with Chilly Gonzales, Itzhak Perlman, Lhasa de Sela, Killah Priest, Enrico Macias, and many more. He is the subject of The "Socalled" Movie, a documentary released in 2010 by Garry Beitel for the National Film Board of Canada, during which he visited his grandparents' homeland, Ukraine, and organized a klezmer cruise on the Dnieper River.

Dumai Dunai

Dumai Dunai is a dub-punk Slavic folk band from Montreal formed in 2021. Rooted in the folk singing traditions of singer Natalia Telentso’s homeland of Ukraine and melodies inspired by Juno-nominated bandleader Eli Camilo’s extensive adventures in the lands of the Danube, the band powers these influences with deep dubbed-out grooves and the energy of punk rock.

Murmurosi

Murmurosi is a Montreal-based quartet founded by Ukrainian-born Natalia Telentso and Juno-nominated Eli Camilo. Inspired by the polyphonic singing tradition of Ukraine, the group performs a cappella folk songs and a combination of original compositions and experimental re-arrangements of traditional tunes. In 2021, they were joined by guitarist Josh Greenberg and double-bassist Émilou Johnson.
