HUA LI 化力
Hua Li’s project works the fruitful tension between opposing forces, whether being mixed-race, bisexual, or overtly political and softly vulnerable. In 2024 she released her her most ambitious and personal record to date, ripe fruit falls but not in your mouth, garnering her a Global Asian Creative Award, a spot on Range Magazine’s best albums of 2024 and a GAMIQ nomination for best electro album of the year.
Following 2019’s Dynasty and 2020’s critically acclaimed Yellow Crane EP, ripe fruit is characteristically libertine. The rapper is fierce and frequently funny, erupting from gauzy runs to deliver a quick uppercut that stings. With hooky, addictive features by Ambrose Getz and Darkus Millon, ripe fruit is an intimate record of healing, with Montreal’s nightlife at its heart.
Luminous and compelling, Hua Li shows it takes tenderness to let things ripen, and guts to let things die. In-between is a kind of rapture that begs to be savoured.
FRAUD PERRY
Fraud Perry is the alternative Rap/Pop project of Montreal based songwriter and producer Melinda Massolas. Heavily inspired by the power and rhythm of Punk, Hip-hop, Pop, Dance music, and RnB, Perry credits her genre-free sound to her desire to explore and create space for all the different facets of herself. “I use music to know and understand, and there’s still much to understand.”
No stranger to the stage, Perry has commanded international audiences at SXSW, Pop Montreal, and Sled Island, In addition to sharing stages with underground heavy-hitters Backxwash, Kari Faux, Cartel Madras, Myst Milano, Zeke Ultra, YHWH Nailgun, Chanel Beads and more. and more.
Fraud Perry will be performing with a new live band, Hanzo on Drums, Ryan on guitar, and Gino on Bass.
KAYA HOAX
En écoutant Kaya Hoax, lauréate du Gamiq dans la catégorie « Espoir 2025 », vous ne manquerez pas de hocher la tête au rythme d’un savant mélange de malice et d’indignation passive. Sa musique, à la fois urgente et festive, évolue aux confins du hip hop et de la pop expérimentale, puisant son inspiration dans le UK grime, le dancehall et le punk. Sur un socle de percussions magnétiques, de synthétiseurs bruts et de 808s grondants, l’artiste déploie des couplets qui oscillent entre de féroces proclamations d’indépendance et des éclats de vulnérabilité totale.
Après une série de spectacles remarquables au Québec – notamment une prestation mémorable lors de POP Montréal, saluée par la revue CULT comme l’une des meilleures du festival – elle a dévoilé son premier EP, « Baby Gear », en mai 2024. Armée de refrains hyperactifs, de basses envoûtantes et de mélodies irrésistibles, Kaya Hoax propose une musique survoltée, empreinte d’une énergie féminine irrévérencieuse.
Après un court hiatus, Kaya Hoax est enfin de retour sur scène en formule duo avec le producteur Christian Sean. Ce spectacle sera l’occasion de découvrir en primeur de nouvelles chansons tirées d’un album à paraître en 2027.
