Concert de Montréal | Chapelle Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Secours
Avec «Taffot, Kakudji, Pergolèse», Galileo entend donner suite au concert «Perles rares, perles noires» s'étant déroulé à Valleyfield et Vaudreuil-Dorion, au printemps 2018, et dont l’objectif était de souligner l'exceptionnelle contribution de la communauté noire au monde de la musique classique. Vedette du concert de 2018, la soprano haïtienne Marie-Josée Lord cédera sa place aux africains Suzanne Taffot et Serge Kakudji en 2023.
La présence d’interprètes noirs sur les scènes nord-américaines n’est pas nouvelle. Celles de chanteurs spécifiquement africains l’est davantage. Suzanne Taffot est une soprano camerounaise installée au Québec depuis plusieurs années et qui attire l’attention par des performances inspirées, notamment avec l’Orchestre Métropolitain et l’Opéra de Québec.
Serge Kakudji est quant à lui un contre-ténor congolais qui fait carrière en Europe et qui mérite d’être connu en Amérique. Tous les deux s’exécuteront notamment dans les Stabat Mater de Pergolèse et de Vivaldi, deux chef-d’œuvres de musique religieuse baroque. Le programme comprendra en outre l’exécution du Salve Regina de Pergolèse et de la Symphonie concertante op. 11, n°1 du Chevalier Saint-George, compositeur mulâtre du XVIIIe siècle et surnommé le «Mozart noir».
Galileo jouera sur instruments d'époque pour l'occasion. Le concert est présenté en collaboration avec Vues d'Afrique.

With "Taffot, Kakudji, Pergolèse", Galileo intends to follow up on the "Perles rares, perles noires" concert that took place in Valleyfield and Vaudreuil-Dorion in the spring of 2018, and whose objective was to highlight the exceptional contribution of the black community to the world of classical music. Star of the 2018 concert, Haitian soprano Marie-Josée Lord will give way to Africans Suzanne Taffot and Serge Kakudji in 2023.
The presence of black performers on North American stages is not new. Those of specifically African singers are more so. Suzanne Taffot is a Cameroonian soprano who has been living in Quebec for several years and who has attracted attention with inspired performances, notably with the Orchester Métropolitain and the Opéra de Québec. Serge Kakudji, from Congo, is a talented countertenor who made a career in Europe and who deserves to be known in America.
Both will perform notably in the Stabat Mater by Pergolesi and Vivaldi, two masterpieces of Baroque sacred music. The program will also include the performance of Salve Regina by Pergolesi and the Symphonie op. 11, n° 1 from Chevalier Saint-George, mulatto composer of the 18th century and nicknamed the “Black Mozart”.
Galileo will play period instruments for the occasion. The concert is presented in collaboration with Festival Vues d'Afrique.
