Talk To Frank

Runtime: 5 minutes

Directed by: Matt Green

Produced by: Summit Fever Media

Language: English

Country of origin: England

My name is Frank, and I'm a cocker spaniel from Manchester. My story began when I moved in with Maleek, my human. He wasn't in a great place—having just finished a four-year sentence, he found himself transitioning from one prison to another: the COVID lockdown and a debilitating depression. I gave him no choice; he had to start walking me. One walk led to another, and soon we were running. Before he knew it, we were on our way up Pen Y Ghent, his first mountain. The mountains are his spiritual home, he needs them just as much as I do. His ambition is to run in the Alps. To push his boundaries and tackle a route higher and further than he has ever been before. So that's our plan. Together we are going to go to the Alps, we're going to see the peaks, the ridges, the summits, and we're going to heal together.

Les sommets libres is a documentary that traces the inspiring journey of Ulrich N'Djinke. This child from La Jonchère, a sensitive neighborhood in Annecy (Haute-Savoie), facing the Alps, who has always been fascinated by the mountains, dared to venture into this environment that was not his own by independently starting outdoor sports, particularly trail running. Now an educator and sports coach, this 34-year-old Franco-Cameroonian has since been dedicated to involving young people from the neighborhoods, encouraging them to take ownership of a world whose history has, until now, always been written without them.

This summer, encouraged by his friend and race organiser, Martin is taking part in the ultra-distance Challenge de Montcalm in Ariège: La PICaPICA. A hotbed of trail running, love of the mountains and passion for trail running, Martin started out here several years ago.
