In thousand years, only three supernovas have been observed by the naked eye in the Milky Way. Chances that you’ll ever witness one of these titanic, bright stellar explosions are therefore extremely small. So, don’t miss out on the unique occasion to catch SuperNova 4, as Jean Derome (alto & baritone sax & flute), Félix Stüssi (piano), Normand Guilbeault (double bass) and Pierre Tanguay (drums) invite you to a luminous trip through their musical galaxies!

SuperNova 4 presents a brand-new repertoire of original compositions that are deeply rooted in the jazz and blues traditions, but at same time turned towards the future and wide open to cosmic influences. The resulting music is at once intense and captivating, sweet and fragile, full of humor, but always fresh and authentic.

The self-titled album of the is nominated for a Prix Opus and it is on third place on two best-lists for 2020, the first one compiled by the show «Escales» on Coco Jazz Radio, the second one by sortiesjazznights.com.

The music of SuperNova 4 goes straight to the heart. Whether you are « Bonobo » or rather « Urubu », to cite two of the titles of the new repertoire, this musical adventure won’t leave you cold!

Félix Stüssi

When he travels around the city by bike or when he is behind his piano, Félix Stüssi likes adventure and fresh wind. Since he turned his back on journalism and boarded a freighter bound for Canada, this Swiss by birth has devoted himself entirely to jazz piano and composition. In 2007, his quintet won the prestigious Grand Prix du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. The following year, the quintet became a sextet with the addition of American trombonist Ray Anderson. The group's four albums are very well received on both sides of the Atlantic, with nominations for various awards (Juno Awards, ADISQ, Prix Opus) testifying to this. LES MALCOMMODES, a highly dynamic trio with Daniel Lessard on double bass and Pierre Tanguay on drums, love to extend invitations. Félix Stüssi's most recent project is called SuperNova 4 with Jean Derome (sax, flute), Normand Guilbeault (double bass) and Pierre Tanguay (drums). The eponymous debut album was released in March 2020 on Effendi Records (FND 159), distributed by NAXOS. Félix Stüssi regularly returns to Europe where he has played with Bruno Spoerri, Nils Wogram, Jürg Wickihalder, Christoph Grab, Werner Fischer and Peter A, among others. Schmid. With the latter he recorded a duo album which was released on Unit Records in January 2017 (Transatlantic Conversations, UTR 4738). In January 2017 the Swiss municipality of North Glarus awarded the cultural prize to Félix Stüssi. In June 2021, Ray Anderson and Félix Stüssi will embark on a European tour as a duo. In Canada, Stüssi is also a member of the Octet Jazzlab Orchestra and the Auguste Quartet, two groups that tour frequently in Canada, Europe and Asia, led by double bassist Alain Bédard. In response to a commission, Félix Stüssi has composed a new repertoire for the Jazzlab Orchestra which was released on the album Quintessence (Effendi, FND 152) in January 2019. www.felixstussi.com/
