Kathak Choreography Workshop for Beginners


We're excited to announce our first workshop for 2025! Don't miss this opportunity to learn a beginner's Kathak choreography in a welcoming and nurturing environment with Anita Pandey!


Come immerse yourself in the beauty of this North Indian dance form. Anita will teach a movement composition to a piece of original music recorded for her by her Guru at Allahabad Kathak Kendra.


Dress Code:

Kurta (preferred) + leggings/joggers/comfortable bottoms, comfortable clothing that allows for a wide range of flowing movements

About the Teacher:

Anita Pandey is a Toronto-based Kathak dancer, choreographer, and educator with extensive training under Guru Urmila Sharma in India.

Anita has toured Canada with the Usha Gupta Dance Ensemble and premiered her original work, Astitva, at Dusk Dances in 2024.


She’s also a seasoned workshop facilitator, having worked with Dance ‘N’ Culture Inc. and Arts Etobicoke, and runs her own school in Toronto and Montreal. Her artistry has been recognized with the first-place award in the Sangeet Natak Akademi state-level competition.

Veils of bollywood

Veils of Bollywood is a Montreal based, new age, Bollywood and Indian fusion dance troupe that strives to share the magical joy and diversity present within Bollywood and South Asian diaspora cultures with the world. Their debut performance was in Toronto in June 2019 at the 15th Annual Toronto Choreographer's Ball where they presented their first fusion piece. Being in operation for less than a year, Veils of Bollywood has already performed for major Montreal festivals including Holi Montreal and Fierté Montreal Pride. The troupe has also performed in various cities across Canada and the US including Dallas, Brossard and Edmonton. Through community outreach and engagement, Veils of Bollywood aims to educate, inspire and celebrate diversity using movement as a primary medium.

Anita Pandey

  Anita Pandey is a Toronto-based Kathak dancer, choreographer, and educator. She has received advanced training in Kathak under Guru Urmila Sharma in India, and expanded her movement vocabulary through a mentorship with Tanveer Alam. Among several highlights as a dance artist, Anita developed a new dance work, "Astitva," in collaboration with Gouri Kundu which premiered at Dusk Dances (2024). Anita completed a Canada tour with the Usha Gupta Dance Ensemble for the Kathak production Khoj (2023), and performed as a solo artist for Stuti Mukherjee's production, Navarupa, at the Shenkman Arts Centre in Ottawa (2023).

  Notably, Anita was awarded first place in the Sangeet Natak Akademi state-level competition, and has been employed in the capacity of a workshop facilitator with Dance ‘N’ Culture Inc., Arts Etobicoke, and several other organizations across the Greater Toronto Area as an educator. Anita teaches at her self-founded school with three branches currently open in Toronto and Montreal.
