A FEAST OF MEDIEVAL YULETIDE MUSIC!

In the weeks before Christmas, Montréal’s musical venues are always very busy, and every year audiences are offered a selection of the traditional works they know and love. With this program, Ensemble Scholastica would like to remind Montréalers that Christmas music hasn’t always been carols and Messiahs. Medieval Christmas music is just as joyous, festive and beautiful!

This December, our singer-musicians will present a program of delightful ancient tunes—complete with resounding bells and droning strings—retelling the age-old stories of angels, donkeys and a very special baby to get our audience in the spirit of the season. The repertoire will include 13th- and 14th-century songs in Old French, Old English and Italian as well as 12th- and 13th-century polyphony from Paris and Aquitania.

WITH:

Rebecca Bain - voice, vielle, bells, direction

Elodie Bouchard - voice, rebec

Angèle Trudeau - voice, symphonia

Leah Weitzner - voice, vielle
