On April 25 and 26, 2026, the Chœur classique de l’Outaouais will kick off its 40th anniversary celebrations by presenting a landmark work from the musical heritage of the Outaouais and Quebec: Requiem pour Mathieu by Gatineau composer Pierrette Froment-Savoie, who will also be the guest pianist.
Created with the participation of the Chœur in 1992, this moving work is recognized for its depth and universal message.
For this special occasion, the Chœur classique de l'Outaouais will be accompanied by some fifteen musicians from the Ensemble Prisme and four soloists.

Tiphaine Legrand
iphaine Legrand has a rich background in choir conducting. She studied singing and choir conducting with Chantal Masson-Bourque at Université Laval, then with Nicole Paiement and Robert Ingari at Université de Sherbrooke. Tiphaine is a passionate pedagogue of choral music and works with singers of all ages and in many musical styles. Founder and then artistic director of the ensemble Kô in its early years, Tiphaine particularly explored the links between early music and that of contemporary Québécois composers. She is responsible for the choral singing sector at the LUMI School of the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Music, and she is the music and choir director of the Chœur classique de l'Outaouais since September 2011.
Driven by a desire to make choral singing more accessible and inclusive, she directs a choir at the Centre AVC/Aphasie Laval as part of a pilot project initiated by SAMS (Société pour les arts en milieux de santé). She is also a member of the Collège des chefs de l'Alliance chorale du Québec and provides choral conducting training for primary school teachers.
Pierrette Froment-Savoie
Daughter of Louis N. Froment and Éva Clément, Pierrette Froment-Savoie began piano lessons at the age of 5 at Wrightville Convent in Hull. In 1955, she continued her piano studies at the Hull School of Music. She completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Montreal in 1962. She continued her studies for a Master's degree in classical piano which she obtained two years later. In 1964-1965, she studied for a Bachelor of Music degree at the same university.
In the decade that followed, she continued to perfect her skills in piano, chamber music, analysis, harmony, counterpoint and fugue, orchestration, solfeggio and ear training, notably at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, at the Académie internationale d'été de Nice (France) and with Lubka Kolessa, the renowned Ukrainian pianist and exceptional pedagogue,
She has been a professor of piano, music writing, solfeggio, music theory and ear training at the Conservatoire de musique de Gatineau (formerly Hull) from its founding in 1967 until 2020, in addition to giving numerous solo performances around the world. Her best-known work is Requiem pour Mathieu. Dedicated to the memory of her son Mathieu, who died of cancer at the age of 13, it was premiered in 1992 with the participation of the Chœur classique de l'Outaouais, then performed in concert some 20 times and recorded in 2007 by the Ottawa Bach Choir conducted by Lisette Cantin.
In 2025, the Conservatoire de musique de Gatineau (CMG) honored Pierrette Froment-Savoie by naming its concert hall after her, highlighting her outstanding contribution to music and education in the greater Outaouais region.
