Embark on a unique adventure with our enhanced Gunnery Experience! This exclusive program provides participants with an in-depth historical and technical background on the 4” guns used aboard HMCS Haida during the Second World War and the Korean War.

Participants will have the rare opportunity to load and fire the 4” guns on-board HMCS Haida, guided by a team of expert Parks Canada staff. Feel the rush as you don historic gun crew gear and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of naval warfare.

This enhanced program is available on a pre-booked basis only, offering an unforgettable experience for history enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.

Each ticket includes one complimentary spectator ticket. Spectators can watch but not participate in the Gunnery Experience.


Disclaimer:

The HMCS Haida Gunnery Experience involves loud noises and physical activity. It may not be suitable for individuals with certain health conditions, including but not limited to heart conditions, hearing impairments, or mobility issues.

All participants are required to wear closed-toed shoes, and all provided protective gear provided by Parks Canada, including hearing and eye protection.

Only trained personnel are allowed to handle gunnery equipment. Participants must not touch or operate any equipment unless explicitly instructed by staff. Failure to comply with staff instructions may result in the participants removal from the experience. This experience is only available for attendees that are 16 years or older.

Participants will navigate the ship via a series of hatches, narrow passageways, raised thresholds, and steep ladders. Be aware of deck surfaces that can be slippery when wet and watch out for low overhead clearance.

By car:  

Visitors can park free of charge in the parking lot of HMCS Haida National Historic Site. Spaces are limited.


By public transit:

GO Transit has daily train services to both Hamilton GO Centre and West Harbour GO stations via the Lakeshore West Line. Service extends from Toronto’s Union Station making serval stops in the GTA before arriving in Hamilton. Visit GO Transit’s website for more information.

From Hamilton GO Centre:

Bus: Route 20 runs from the John opposite Hamilton Go Centre stop to the Guise at John stop or Haida and Pier 8 stop. From there it is a 300 metre walk to site entrance at Haida Ave and Catherine Street North.

From West Harbour GO:

Bus: Route 20 runs from the James opposite West Harbour stop to the Guise at John stop or Haida and Pier 8 stop. From there it is a 300 metre walk to the site entrance at Haida Ave and Catherine Street North.Walking: HMCS Haida National Historic Site is a 20-minute or 1.5 km walk from The West Habour GO Station, heading north on James Street, then right on Guise Street, and left on Catherine Street North.

Via Rail has regular train service to Hamilton, via Windsor, London, Toronto and Niagara Falls. Some stations will require transfer. Visit the Via Rail website.
