Adelaida lives and works on the moon. A mermaid in winter and a witch in summer, she lifts her voice in a spell. Trained in classical music and Fine Arts, her work stands at the crossroads of performance, ritual, and sound experimentation. Her practice is a delicate yet daring exploration of the voice—its limits, its strength, and its power to transform space, emotion, and community.
...lifting the voice... is a workshop that invites participants to rediscover the voice as a living, playful, and collective instrument. Moving away from technique and towards expression, Adelaida opens a space for curiosity and connection—a place where each voice can unfold freely and resonate with others. Through listening, movement, improvisation, and collective creation, participants explore their vocal landscapes and the shared energy of sound.
The workshop unfolds in four phases, moving gradually from reflection to embodied expression and communal release:
Phase 1 – Theory / Inspiration
We begin by opening our ears. Through a light and dynamic presentation of vocal references—using video and digital materials (YouTube, TikTok, archives)—Adelaida invites us to rethink what it means “to sing.” From folk rituals to sound art, from choral traditions to contemporary experiments, we explore the voice as a poetic, expressive, and transformative medium. This phase sets the tone for an open and playful collective exploration.
Phase 2 – Warm-up / Listening
Grounded in the principles of Pauline Oliveros’s Deep Listening, this phase offers a series of physical, vocal, and listening exercises that attune body and voice. Breath becomes rhythm, attention becomes presence. Together, we awaken our bodies as resonant instruments and prepare for a shared sonic experience rooted in awareness and empathy.
Phase 3 – The Game / Creation
Adelaida introduces the looper—one of her central compositional tools—and demonstrates how layers of sound can form living sonic tapestries. Through guided improvisations and group games, participants experiment with rhythm, tone, and texture, using their voices as material for collective creation. The result is an evolving soundscape born from listening, spontaneity, and play.
Phase 4 – Closure / The Shout
The final phase brings the group together in reflection and release. Participants are invited to share sensations, discoveries, and emotions that emerged during the process. The workshop culminates in a collective vocal gesture—a shared shout, chant, or exhalation—that celebrates the multiplicity of voices and the freedom found in raising them together.
...lifting the voice... is both a workshop and a shared ritual: an experience of listening, transformation, and joy through the act of voicing together.
