Darenots

Skillfully combining the best of hip hop, reggae, trap, and rock with earworm hooks, Toronto’s Darenots are the genre busting sound of the city. Since forming in 2015, vocalists James Mascola and Rev along with CJ Hinds and Swav Pior of illScarlett, are a veteran lineup that produce an unforgettable live experience which intuitively marries contagious electronic beats with driven guitars and body blasting rhythm.

Between party anthems like “Heavyweight” and “Good Good” and the chill grooves of “911” and “Focus to Faded”, The Now Is Truth is a sophisticated debut EP that effortlessly moves bodies to the beat. Released in early 2016 on NVRNF/Law Records, the ‘ep’ features collaborations with Camm Hunter (Down With Webster), Kaleo Wassman (Pepper) & Grieves (Ryhmesayers Ent). Since the release, Darenots have performed to packed houses alongside Dirty Heads, Hollerado, illScarlett, July Talk, DZ Deathrays, USS, Walk Off The Earth, and Pepper.

Rough Gentlemen

Rough Gentlemen is an indie rock & roll band from Montreal, founded in 2013 by Jonathan Laverdure, Simon Deschamps, and Kevin Morency. Shortly after their first demo release in 2014, the band started hitting venues all around the province and Ontario. Their main goal was to share and promote rock music anyway they could. The band settled to find members with the same goals and love for music as they did. After hard work and research, Jessy Mamano came up to the table on bass. Kevin and Jessy had shared the stage together numerous times in previous bands, which added a great chemistry to the line-up. in early 2015, Charlie Cayouette also joined the band as full time drummer, finally putting an end too the never ending story of session musicians. Rough Gentlemen was then ready to attack freq shop studios to record their first self-titled EP. With a solid and bonded line-up, rough gentlemen is now ready to get its name out and conquer crowds and fans from all over after a sold out EP launch in Laval back in February 2017.

Oktoplut

An emerging Stoner-Rock duo with Grunge tendencies, Oktoplut began in 2012 and launched its first full album named “Pansements” on May 27 2014. Listed as a 2014 highlight by Ici Musique, the band is invited to play at the “Festival de la Musique Émergente” and “Coup de Coeur Francophone.” Having been nominated at the GAMIQ in 2014 in the “newcomers of the year category as well as “punk album of the year”, the Montreal-based band add its name to the list of artists that ensures the strength of local French language rock. In March 2016, the band is back to present their sophomore effort, “La sorcière de roche”. This EP offers a single 18 minutes song, accompanied by a concept live show. Available in limited vinyl release as well as on the Internet, the song is praised by fans and manages to find its way on the end-of-the-year charts of 2016. A special mention must be given to CISM who in December 2016, proudly celebrated the 18th rotation of the song on its air, a great way to acknowledge the bond between the band and its core audience. At their beginning in 2012, the band jokingly said that by adopting the name “Oktoplut”, the expectations would be lower. However, in a span of five years, the projects keep on lining up and are getting bigger. The band’s track sheet keeps on getting bigger, with thousands of fans, hundreds of thousands of streams, tens of thousands of online views for their videos, and shows with several guest musicians (including their good friends in Rouge Pompier) at their 2016 performance at the Francopholies de Montréal. The band once again gets its name out in the press when in December 2016, when they cover 3 songs by François Pérusse for the compilation album ZOO1. The popular radio show “La soirée est encore jeune” praises them and the online streams are constantly on the rise. Their 2nd full-length album, “Le démon normal” is released on October 20 2017. The album shuts their critics down, those who because of the name, saw the project as funny and potentially short-lived. The album was recorded at the prestigious Studio Piccolo in Montreal, as the band was looking for a way to push their boundaries further as a two-piece. The album tells a story, and is what the band considers to be their heaviest yet most pop influenced work to date. It contains a 3 acts play borrowing pieces from the rock opera genre. Catchy choruses mixed with destruction that hits you like a tsunami wave without giving you a chance to catch your breath. With their career taking on new proportions, the band constantly inspires the industry, their colleagues, and their fans.

Code 40-11

In the spirit of bands such as Groovy Aardvark, Les Vulgaires Machins, and Arseniq33 who all chose to sing in French, Code 40-11 spits his guts out in the form of a Punk-Metal style that speaks to a lazy and watered down society that needs to be shaken up. Active since 2013, the band has played all around Quebec and even in Ontario, making a strong impression every time.

Their first album, “En Mode Bonne Conscience”, came out at the end of 2014, generating such a positive response that the band went back to the studio in the summer of 2015 to record a 5 song EP. “Fais-le” came out in the fall of 2015 under the label “Musique Néfaste”. The band is now working on their 2nd full length album, tentatively due in the fall of 2017.

Tropico Bravo

Tropico Bravo is composed of musicians from Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua and France based in Montreal and exploring rhythms like Cumbia, Reggae, Ska, mixed with Rap and Hip Hop trends, along with fighting words, and social solidarity and of course, pure Candela to move even the most serious.

Les Bémoles

The idea of forming a band started to take form in Fred Beauchamp’s head in september of 2015. He knows he can’t accomplish his vision on his own, but with the help of other musicians and friends, anything is possible. He joins forces with 4 other musicians and together they form “All You Need Is Love”, a Beatles tribute band. Following the success of this first experience, the band changes its name to “Les Bémoles”, and starts experimenting with original songs. The result is great and the band climbs up the ladder at a breathtaking pace. In the summer of 2018, following their win at the Lanaudiere regional final of Cégep en Spectacle, “Les Bémoles” will perform all around the province of Quebec, giving people a chance to discover a band that is hungry, on its way up, full of talent, and determined to leave its mark on the music scene.
