QuimbaSoul was formed in January 2024, conceived by Colombian guitarist and singer Toto De la Ossa. After completing his master’s degree in jazz in Montreal, Toto felt the need to reconnect with his Colombian roots while exploring new sonic possibilities. After a year of experimenting with different lineups, Toto finally found the ideal combination: Bogotá-based bassist Jeison Triana, trained in jazz and influenced by progressive rock; drummer Elvis Guillot, a specialist in Afro-Caribbean rhythms; accordionist Juan Bautista, who brings the vallenato flavor of the Colombian coast; and experienced percussionist Hanser Santos, who enriches the group with the richness of Cuban percussion. This combination gives rise to a unique sound: an electric, vibrant blend deeply rooted in Afro-Colombian traditions while remaining resolutely contemporary.
