Originally from Dakar, ILAM draws on his Peulh roots to create a unique style that blends Sahel blues, Afro-pop rock, reggae, and soul in Wolof, Peulh, French, and English. After studying at the Conservatory of the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Dakar, he arrived in Montreal in 2014 and quickly made a name for himself: he won two Coup de Cœur awards at the 2014 Vitrine MUZ, followed by the Radio-Canada Revelation Award for 2016–2017. A true showman, he has graced Montreal’s biggest stages: Jazz de Montréal, Francofolies, and Nuits d’Afrique. He shared the stage with Wyclef Jean during Montreal’s 375th anniversary celebrations. His album HOPE (2016) launched a Canadian tour followed by a tour in China, and was followed by Néné (2020), which took him to conquer international stages. ILAM will release a new album on 24 April 2026, featuring fresh and captivating sounds.
