Born in Haiti, Ronald Lebeau discovered music at age 16 through the work of Michael Bolton, George Michael, and the Caribbean Sextet, convinced that music is the language of the soul. He turned professional in 1996 with the gospel group “Sunshine,” touring the French Antilles, before joining several konpa groups in the United States. From these experiences emerged Kwaliti, his flagship project: an energetic blend of Haitian rhythms, Caribbean Afro-pop, zouk, and touches of blues, performed as a duet with Alain Jean Louis. Their cover of Muzion’s “Lavi ti Nèg” united the Haitian diaspora during a time of crisis, while Le Devoir praised their irresistible Caribbean flavors. Ronald Lebeau and Kwaliti won the Bronze Syli at the 2020 Syli d’Or World Music Awards, as well as the Afropop Worldwide Award for their stage presence.
