Mateus Vidal is a renowned Brazilian singer and composer, widely recognised for being one of the lead singers of the famous Afro-Brazilian group Olodum. Originally from Salvador de Bahia, the cradle of Afro-Brazilian culture, Vidal embodied the energy and soul of samba-reggae, a musical genre pioneered by Olodum. His journey with Olodum is a story of growth and dedication. He first joined the group as a young percussion student at Escola Criativa Olodum, the organisation's music school. Rising through the ranks, he progressed from percussionist to singer, officially becoming one of the lead vocalists in 2009.
