Grèn Sémé blows up maloya off the beaten path. This iconic music from La Réunion turns, in their hands, into an incandescent laboratory of ternary rhythms where French chanson, African pop, and Indian Ocean beats collide. In their “gazé” maloya, you hear both the direct inspiration from the purest line of traditional Reunionese music and its very current evolution. The band has, to date, three albums: Grèn Sémé (2013), Hors Sol (2016), and Zamroza (2022), plus a new EP “Maloya Gazé” (April 2024). They're coming to Montréal to deliver an ultra-danceable evening, an explosion of joy and emotion—in short, a Grèn Sémé night.
