Maurix Baru (Jean Paul Maurice Mbarushimana), a singer, pianist, composer, and producer, is a recognized artist in Afro-opera, Afrobeat, and Afro-soul genres, with over 14 years of experience. Born in Rwanda into a musical family, he started playing the piano at the age of 12. At university, he led the music band for 3 years. Maurix created Afro-opera, a style he popularized with songs like Isi irabakeneye, Igitenge, and Ngabira. He is especially famous in Rwanda for his hits Mama Ndakuririmbira and Abasangirangendo, a collaboration with the legendary Cécile Kayirebwa.

He has also composed and produced for UNICEF Rwanda, including the song Bayi bayi Ingoma, and worked with artists like Tom Close, The Ben, Riderman, Urban Boys, and The Brothers. As a peace advocate, he composed for the La Benevolencija – Rwanda organization. After collaborating with musicians from around the world, Maurix is now continuing his career in Montreal, where he aims to introduce Afro-opera to an international audience.
