Created in 2012, the Salamate Gnaoua group was founded by Rachid Salamate in Montreal with the aim of preserving and promoting Gnaoua music beyond Morocco's borders. The group brings together talented young musicians who perform regularly on various stages across Canada. Inspired by the ancestral traditions of the Gnaouas of West Africa, the group's music blends sacred chants, percussive rhythms and traditional instruments such as the guembri and qraqebs. The Salamate Gnaoua group strives to keep this spiritual music alive while integrating contemporary influences, creating a fusion of the traditional and the modern.
