KIRÁ

Brazil runs deep in Kirà’s veins. Always genuine and a bit of a rebel, Manu Chao’s son has joyfully followed his own path while exploring the country’s northeastern folkloric traditions, and his first album, Semente de Peixe, captured some 50 millions listeners across all platforms! Gently enveloped in a somewhat psychedelic aesthetic, Kirà draws as much from traditional Brazilian folk as from alternative movements such as Psicodelia Nordestina 70 and the MangueBeat, combining traditional rhythmic styles such as Baião, Maracatu, Carimbó,  Pisadinhaou and Pagodão Baiano, with other Latin genres including salsa, cumbia and bolero

ALBERTO SALGADO

Ever since he embraced capoeira, his first love, Alberto Salgado, who began his musical career in 1999, has never lost sight of this quest for equilibrium. By combining the raw, organic sounds of the berimbau and atabaque with classical guitar and electronic rhythms, Salgado seeks to portray the challenges that development poses to the preservation of nature, particularly water. Winner of Brazil’s Music Prize in 2017, this singer-songwriter, arranger and multi-instrumentalist, who has collaborated with the likes of Chico Buarque and Chico César, skillfully reinvigorates traditional Baião and Xaxado rhythms.

BÏA & MARACUJÁ

Beguiling, playful and feisty Bïa. Always totally invested in her connection to Brazilian groove and, when on stage, her brightly glowing aura envelops the entire audience. Her association with the aptly named Maracujá quartet (meaning passion fruit in Portuguese) is a beautiful marriage of poetry and energy, spontaneity and complicity, an eruption of joy to sweet melancholy… a full range of emotions is captured in this rich compendium of Brazil’s popular musical repertoire : from samba to bossa nova, forró to maracatu, with a touch of jazz or funk, it’s always thrilling!

LUIZ SALGADO

Luiz Salgado’s music is pure poetry. It reveals the very essence of the Cerrado in his native state of Minas Gerais and is as rich and pristine as the country’s eastern highland tropical savanna itself. On guitar, the raw traditional chords ring true, underscoring the sincerity in his voice. For the past 25 years, the folksinger has been sharing through song, stories that are rooted in Folia dos Reis and Congado popular cultures, depicting social realities and celebrating the beauty of nature and our relationship to the earth.
