“I try to do a mix of traditional and modern so that our music is easy to listen and dance to.” Dicko Fils wants nothing better than to spread Fulani music across the globe by making it accessible to all audiences. This master ngoni player, made Knight of the Order of Merit of Culture of Burkina Faso, found his musical bearings in Mali and the Ivory Coast, where he became interested in reggae and wassoulou rhythms andwas inspired by such greats as Salif Keita, Oumou Sangaré and Ali Farka Touré, before returning to his home country to champion the spread of its musical heritage, while incorporating popular dance rhythms like coupé-décalé, an approach that has earned him a string of West African awards
