CARINE AU MICRO

Originally from Benin, Carine au Micro was immersed in the world of music at an early age thanks to her parents, especially her mother. Her youthful enthusiasm led to an interest in hip-hop, funk, jazz and soul. A revelation struck her during a visit to her native country. From then on, she chose to bring this heritage into her music, a way for her to move closer spiritually to a country from which she was physically distant. France represented a decisive step in her career, with encounters, stage appearances and collaborations. She forged her own musical experience upon contact with various emerging artists. After arriving in Montréal in 2004, she took the opportunity to make a place for herself on the Québec music scene by joining the Imani Gospel Singers choir. Seizing another opportunity, she took to the stage of the Segal Centre for another major project, the musical comedy Mahalia Jackson, starring Ranee Lee (a 2010 Juno Award-winning jazz singer). Carine au Micro set out on a solo course with a début EP in 2019 titled O La Si, a sumptuous disc that swings between her various musical emotions: jazz, soul, gospel, R&B and, of course, African music. This work speaks of her connection with her country of origin and also of love and personal disappointments but with an optimistic vision of the future. Through experience, she shapes her personality, opens herself to discoveries and is nurtured by the eclectic dynamism that defines her career, both here and back home. It seems only natural, for someone compared to the great Angélique Kidjo to be appearing in the Voix du Monde series, she has set her own path at the crossroads of different countries.
