Festival Accès Asie, in collaboration with the Canadian International Organ Competition (CIOC), is very pleased to invite you to see an exceptional documentary, Pipe Dreams, following five young organists as they compete in the CIOC. Who will master the ‘king of instruments’ and come out victorious in Montreal? Pipe Dreams will give you an inside look into the wonderful world of competitive organ playing. From the quietest tinkling of a bell to the rumble of a locomotive… this is organ playing like you have never heard it before! A discussion between Khosro Berahmandi, artistic director of the Festival Accès Asie, Thomas Leslie, executive director of the CIOC and Yuan Shen, one of the organists, will be provide with your reservation.

Stacey Tenenbaum

Stacey Tenenbaum is an award-winning creative producer and director. In 2014 she founded H2L Productions, a boutique documentary film production company specializing in crafting character driven stories which are shot internationally. H2L Production’s award-winning documentary feature Shiners, was sold to TV5 Quebec- Canada, Documentary Channel Canada, and Independent Lens / PBS. Stacey also produced The Beat (OLN), a documentary series she co-created. In 2012 Stacey was nominated for an International Emmy for In Real Life III, a factual tv series she co- created and produced.

Van Royko

Van Royko is an award-winning cinematographer from Montreal. Van has learned from celebrated directors including Nettie Wild, Yung Chang, Sturla Gunnarson and Denys Arcand. He co-directed and shot Eye Steel Film’s feature documentary, Let There Be Light, which had its premiere at SXSW. The film was broadcast on the Documentary Channel in the Winter of 2018. Van also shot and directed a short film on Myanmar’s election and democratic reform for the online platform Field of Vision which premiered at the NYFF.

Christina Clark

Christina Clark is a writer, director and producer from Montreal. She has worked in documentary film and television since graduating from Concordia’s Communications program in 2012. Her work has appeared on CBC, Knowledge Network, TV5, Discovery and Viceland. She is engaged in stories that drive the human spirit – stories about people and places that help us to enrich our understanding of who we are, and what makes us human.

Yuan Shen

Yuan Shen is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Piano at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. A young, world-renowned organist from Beijing, Yuan Shen has won several international and national music competitions. She was the first recipient of a PhD in Organ at the Seitoku University where she completed her thesis on the integration of conventional pipe-organ and electronic-organ education. Yuan Shen performs extensively at international festivals and concerts. Yuan Shen won the Richard Bradshaw Audience Prize at the 2017 Canadian International Organ Competition in Montréal, and is a featured organist in the documentary film, Pipe Dreams, by Montréal director, Stacey Tenenbaum of H2L Productions.
