Malvenn is a Montreal based trio founded in 2023, comprised of Cécile Delage on Celtic harp, Charlotte Layec on clarinets, and McKinley James on cello. The group offers a distinctive interpretation of the balfolk repertoire (Western European traditional dances collected in the countryside). Through original compositions and arrangements drawn from Breton, Irish, and Québécois traditions, Malvenn has established a unique presence within Quebec’s folk music scene.
Influenced by the neo-trad musical movement, this debut album, titled “Chez Nous,” serves as a crossroads between traditional, classical, and contemporary music.
The album title, Chez Nous (“home”), is a nod to the group’s home-concert tour series, “Malvenn joue chez vous.”
