From the epicenter of the Canadian prairies, Ponteix crafts mesmerizing soundscapes, skillfully blending psych-pop sung in French with the ambient echoes of RnB and indie rock. The Fransaskois project, led by Mario Lepage, reflects the resilience of his Francophone roots in the isolated hamlet of St. Denis, Saskatchewan.
Swept by the warm winds of the prairies, Lepage journeyed to Montreal to bring Le Canadien errant to life, an album co-produced with Louis-Jean Cormier of Karkwa. Set for release on February 6, 2025, it delves deep into Lepage’s personal exploration of the cultural “no man’s land” he inhabits, bridging the vastness of his prairie homeland with the rich Quebecois heritage that also shapes his identity.
On stage, Lepage, accompanied by guitar, bass, and synthesizer, envelops the audience with ethereal, entrancing vocal melodies. He is joined by Stacy Tinant on guitar, conjuring searing riffs and hypnotic solos, and Jeffrey Romanyk on drums, delivering thunderous, soul-shaking rhythms. Together, the trio harmoniously blend their voices over pulsating electronic beats, offering an electrifying, immersive experience.
For this unique launch evening, some of the album’s ‘featurings’ including Louis-Jean Cormier will be on stage with Ponteix. A show not to be missed.
