DEF MAMA DEF
Def Mama Def a.k.a Defmaa Maadef, roughly translates as “karma” or ‘give and take” in the Wolof language. And there’s no mistaking what this duo represents, for nothing gets past these lionesses who are leading the way. The name Defmaa Maadef was inspired by their own names, highlighting the “combined energies of singer Defa and rapper Mamy Victory, who permeate the space both physically and musically” (RFI Musique, 2023). As they energetically dance and play their drums, this stellar Senegalese hip-hop duo also use their powerful voice to champion social values and denounce conditions faced by women.
