Self-tying can fill many needs for many people, be it self-care, challenge, exercise, artistic expression, meditation, or skills practice. Although all these goals can be achieved on the ground, sometimes taking to the sky has an allure all its own. It can be incredibly empowering to bring ourselves the experiences we desire in a safe and fulfilling way. For those of you who have wanted to take your self-tying to new heights, or folks who would like to be able to experience suspension without relying on a partner, this is the class for you.

In this class we will cover the safety basics and considerations for self-suspension, and how these are similar or different from those used in partnered rope suspension. We will discuss planning for self-suspension from the standpoint of self-assessment and personal risk profiles. Then, in a demo/lab setting we will cover the basics of uplines for self-suspension and how to choose what set-up works best for you, before tying along through a basic self-suspension. Additional lab/demo topics may be included depending upon time and relative skill sets.

When: June 26th 2021, 3:30-6:00pm EDT

Who: Intermediate Self-Tyers, 18+

Prerequisites: Should have experience self-tying, be able to tie structural harnesses on yourself and be familiar with how your body moves and reacts in rope. Experience topping and/or bottoming for suspension is a plus but not a requirement

Solo or Partnered: Solo

Format: Online; not recorded

Language: English, French translation can be provided if needed

Material needed: 8+ ropes suitable for suspension, Safety tools, Marlin Spike, Water Bottle, Suspension point & carabiner or ring. Please prepare an emergency plan if you’re planning on self-tying

Other info: You will receive a link by email for the Point of Sale waiting room. You will be redirected from there to Zoom 15 minutes before the activity starts. At the beginning of the class you can optionally privately share an emergency contact (name & phone number) with us. If you would like to provide an emergency contact please inform this person ahead of time of their role and what you may need if they are contacted. We will only use this information if you are in distress and will not retain information collected after conclusion of the class.

Kosmick

Kosmick has been involved in rope bondage for over eight years, self tying for much of that time. What first began as a way to learn to tie without a partner and to develop her bottoming skills soon grew into a passion all its own. Now, she self-ties to reconnect with herself, and ground herself in her body and in the present moment. This Ottawa-based rope enthusiast enjoys challenging herself in rope, creating difficult or restrictive positions. She believes that self-tying can fulfill many different desires, depending on the person and the moment, and finds that versatility enchanting.
