Leopoldstadt
Set in Vienna at the turn of the century, Leopoldstadt follows the story of a Jewish family over the course of 50 years: through love affairs, World War I, the annexation of Austria into Germany, and the aftermath of the Holocaust. This touching, “deeply-impactful” drama, is the winner of the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play, and the 2022 Tony Award for Best New Play.
Canadian Premiere: Due to the pandemic closure of theatres in Toronto in 2020, the performance at Dawson College is the Canadian premiere of Leopoldstadt, which ended its final Broadway performance in July 2023.
About the playwright: Sir Tom Stoppard is a renown, award-winning British playwright, with a 60 year career in the theatre. He is best known for his screenplay Shakespeare in Love (1998), as well as his plays Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, and Travesties.
Dawson audiences “can look forward to a large cast playing an extended family, which includes children and the elderly, so it’s a terrific challenge for the actors." - Matt Holland, Director
