BALLATE E DANZE

Reverdies Montréal presents it 10th edition of the Medieval Music Days! This year, we dedicate our MMD to the music of 14th-century Italy, the "Trecento".

An immersive weekend in the fascinating musical world of long ago! Concerts, workshops, and a banquet are on offer, led by passionate and renowned musicians, gifted in transmitting the breadth of their expertise with generosity and enthusiasm. An experience for music-lovers and musicians and singers of all levels, for those who wish to participate actively or simply to listen and discover the beauty and lively spirit of medieval music.

Friday October 18, 8:00 PM

Concert with ensembles Reverdies Montréal and Comtessa: Codex Rossi

The Codex Rossi is the oldest surviving Trecento manuscript. Most of its works are anonymous and unique to this source. These secular compositions were written between 1320 and 1350 in Padua and Verona, in the Veneto region of Italy. Their combination of declamation and virtuoso fluidity became the hallmark of Italian music in the centuries that followed, and which still charms audiences today.

Ensemble Reverdies Montréal and Comtessa: Rebecca Bain (voice, vielle, symphonia), Bruno Cognyl-Fournier (lute gittern), Jean-François Daignault (voice), Alain Vadeboncoeur (voice); Isabelle Douailly-Backman (vielle), Gabrielle Cloutier (voice)

Saturday October 19, 10 AM-5:00 PM

Workshop for all with Reverdies Montréal

Discover the music of the Trecento in our participatory workshop led by Rebecca Bain, Femke Bergsma and Alain Vadeboncoeur. Musicians and singers of all levels, bring whatever instruments you have, your voices or just your ears -- all are welcome!

Comtessa presents a program of Italian Ars Nova music, featuring works by Jacopo da Bologna, Giovanni da Firenze, Andrea Stefani, Magister Pietro, Francesco Landini and Johannes Ciconia.
