With Frétillant et Agile, Jocelyn Sioui brings Auhaïtsic, an unlikely Wendat hero, back to life. How does this obscure figure—viewed with suspicion by his own people—manage to save his nation from extinction and change the course of history? A seasoned puppeteer and captivating storyteller, Jocelyn Sioui delights in bringing colorful, larger-than-life characters out of the shadows. The author of Mononk Jules, which he adapted for the stage, Sioui reminds us to be wary of still waters.

The performance Frétillant et Agile is adapted from the story of the same name, written by Jocelyn Sioui and published by Éditions Hannenorak.

Jocelyne Sioui

A seasoned storyteller and seeker of history, Jocelyn Sioui moves between reality and fiction, weaving narratives that are sensitive, humorous, and striking. With him, the fourth wall disappears, making room for intimacy and direct connection with the audience as he shares stories almost in a whisper.

HYBRID AND MULTIDISCIPLINARY

After more than twenty years of creation, Jocelyn Sioui’s work, now more multidisciplinary than ever, blends puppetry, video, theatre, and storytelling into a rich mix of comedy and drama. Music also plays a central role in his artistic practice, serving as an emotional thread throughout his productions, always in collaboration with local musicians.

REDEFINING THE COLLECTIVE “US”

Drawing from collective memory and popular culture, Jocelyn Sioui creates a dialogue with his audiences. Whether through his stage works or his books, he captivates with a voice that is honest and free of artifice.

Since 2017, he has sought to piece together fragments of a hidden history, inviting audiences to reflect on the roots that shape our collective “us.” His bestselling work Mononk Jules surprised readers with its authenticity, challenging traditional literary and historical conventions while continually inviting us to laugh, reflect, and reconsider the stories we inherit.
