Latin America has a rich history and is a veritable hotbed of literature. But what do we really mean by this geographical and cultural entity, beyond the usual clichés? A cross-perspective on the ways of narrating, translating and thinking about Latin America through literature and history brings together the British translator Daniel Hahn — who translates from Spanish and Portuguese —, the Chilean-Canadian historian José del Pozo, author of Quand l’Amérique latine fait date, Viajes a través de los libros, and the Venezuelan-Canadian journalist Rafael Osio Cabrices, who will publish Twilight in Venezuela (Hachette/Algonquin) in October 2026. Drawing on their respective careers, the discussion will address the tensions between representation and reality, the challenges of cultural translation, and the ways in which literature and historiography contribute to reconfiguring the cartographies of the continent beyond clichés.
