Ainda Estou Aqui is a book written out of survival — of a family marked by dictatorship, disappearance, and aftermath. When it becomes I Am Still Here, the story does not change, but its stakes do. Here at Blue Met in Montreal, Marcelo Rubens Paiva and his English-language co-translator Daniel Hahn meet in person for the first time to talk through that passage, staying close to the book itself: its voice, its silences, its refusal of ornament. 

Together, author and translator reflect on how this work travels into another language, and what must be held onto when a life written in Portuguese asks to be read elsewhere.
