Nature can have a calming effect on human beings. However, nature is also a place of violence where living creatures fight each other, where some are predators and others prey, before becoming hunters themselves. How can human beings, who aspire to peace – peace of mind, peace of body – fit into the natural world? A discussion between British writer and journalist Wyl Menmuir (The Heart of the Woods, The Draw of the Sea), winner of the Blue Metropolis Planet Literature Prize, and Canadian novelist Claire Cameron (How to Survive a Bear Attack), winner of the 2026 Governor General’s Award, who are both so close to nature that they have made it the subject of their books, without a hint of sentimentality but rather with profound humanity.
This event is organized in collaboration with the Canada Council for the Arts to celebrate the finalists and winners of the Governor General’s Literary Awards.
