An award-winning Ukrainian poet, performer and screenwriter, Lyuba Yakimchuk is the author of several poetry collections, including Apricots of Donbas, Making Tenderness and Like Fashion. Born in Pervomaisk (Luhansk Oblast), she lives in Kyiv.
She performed her poem Prayer at the Grammy Awards as part of John Legend’s Free and the French edition of Apricots of Donbas was recorded by Catherine Deneuve. Translated into around 30 languages, her writing has received international recognition and has been featured in major media, including The New York Times, BBC, France 24, CBC, and CNN, while her essays and literary reportage have appeared in leading international and Ukrainian publications.
Apricots of Donbas is a collection of 47 poems influenced by Russian attacks on Ukraine, as well as by complex emotional experiences, erotic desire amid chaos, and childish babbling as a counterpoint to weapons. Combined with poetry, it offers a first-hand account of life in Ukraine today—discussion in Ukrainian and English.
