From the melding of African rhythms with European and Indigenous cultures yielding the rich diversity of Afro-Brazilian forms to the Chocó, home of the largest Afro-Colombian population in Colombia, a conversation in Spanish (with some Portuguese and English thrown in) with the rising literary and musical stars of South America, Fabiana Cozza and Velia Vidal. This discussion will draw on the brand new and much anticipated English translation of Vidal’s work, Tidal Waters, and the scholarship and music of Fabiana Cozza, one of the nation's leading interpreters of Afro-Brazilian music.
