Mario Allard, saxophonist / composer
Laureate of the 2017 Montreal Arts Council Jazz Award and nominated for Jazz Album of the Year and Jazz Concert of the Year at the Opus Prize in 2019, Mario Allard launched his second album "Diaporama" last fall as part of the OFF Festival de Jazz de Montréal. Both dynamic and melodic, the compositions are inspired by lived episodes, atmospheres or characters. Drawn by Will Vinson, Dave Douglas and Donny McCaslin, the pieces form an imaginative universe where the listener can be carried away in different horizons.
His band, composed of David Carbonneau (trumpet), Charles Trudel (piano), Sébastien Pellerin (Contrebasse) and Alain Bourgeois (drums) has performed in several festivals, including the Off Festival de Jazz de Rimouski (2007), at the FIJM (2008, 2018), the Montreal Jazz OFF (2008, 2018) and the National Jazz Awards in Toronto (2009), at the unveiling of the Jazz Petite Bourgogne web documentary with Oliver Jones (2013). The band won the CBC / Radio-Canada Galaxie Award, presented to the group with the best compositions at the Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2008.
Learning from the greats such as internationally renowned saxophonist Donny McCaslin (2012-2013) and drummer John Hollenbeck (2015-2016), Mario Allard has toured in Quebec, Canada, Europe and China with different bands such as La Chango Family , Papagroove, Auguste Quartet and Robert Charlebois among others.
