Stick to Your Guns

Stick to Your Guns is a five member hardcore band from Orange County, California. The band was formed in the summer of 2003, when lead singer Jesse Barnett was inspired to form a band that would provide him with a means to express his views. STYG mixes melody, heaviness and sincerity in a solid musical sound that will meet the demand of fans of Comeback Kid, Throwdown, Ignite, Stronger than Ever, La Llama Quatre Mafia, and Rise Against. Ash Avildsen of Sumerian Records was the first to notice the group.

In 2007, Century Media Records signed the band and reissued their debut album with two bonus tracks. After a few lineup changes, the band began recording a second album with only two members, Jesse Barnett and Casey Lagos. Marked by a vocal shift from Barnett, Comes from the Heart was released in 2008 by Century Media. This year, the group participates in particular in the Warped Tour and the Hell on Earth.

On February 5, 2014, the band entered the studio with producer John Feldmann (The Used, Story of the Year) to record a fifth album. They include Scott Vogel from Terror, Toby Morse from H2O, Walter Delgado from Rotting Out, members of Motionless in White and producer John Feldmann. On October 21, 2014, the band released a new single, Nobody on the Alternative Press11.

Despised Icon

Canadian deathcore pioneers DESPISED ICON are back to unveil their 6th full album: “Purgatory”. Not a theological group by any means, “Purgatory” is meant to represent the mortal experience of being trapped in a suffering state and left to brood; stuck in notions of great loss and permanent scars that will come to define you. It is from these incidents that humans grow.

When it comes to DESPISED ICON, fans can expect a bit more diversity and experimentation with 'Purgatory' both musically and production-wise. Songs like second single "Snake In The Grass" are about the experience of holding someone in very high regard in your mind, only to then realize that they are not only flawed, but often deceitful. The track “Slow Burning” is a heavy reflection on violence in society.

Terror

Los Angeles-based powerhouse Terror has always been a name synonymous with hardcore. From their inception in 2002, the group has shown an unwavering dedication unparalleled in the scene. Now with six studio albums, a string of live albums, splits, compilations and EPs under their belts, the scene veterans are gearing up to release their latest album “Total Retaliation”. The new album written for a September 28 release date with Fit For An Autopsy's Will Putney (Thy Art Is Murder, Body Count, Knocked Loose) in the producers' chair and is the first new material since EP of the Year. last “The Walls Will Fall”. At just under 30 minutes, "Total Retaliation" is a succinct but intense message of resistance in a world that can inspire little else. It’s a nudge to the disillusioned and a firm middle finger to the authorities who are tearing society as we know it apart. As the band's seventh full studio album, it serves as yet another example of why Terror has not only endured, but remained at the top of their game for over 15 years.

Kublai Khan

Struggle builds strength. Trials and tribulations shape and strengthen character. Embodying these truths, Kublai Khan transforms hardship into a hypnotic, heavy metal core backed by nimble metallic fury and a pit-splitting spirit on their fourth full-length album, Absolute [Rise Records]. "A lot of the record is about our struggle with what we do and the fact that we've been doing this for over a decade, I've encountered a lot of obstacles, I've eaten a lot of shit and I continued,” exclaims frontman Matt Honeycutt. “We did way more than we expected, so it’s always about picking you up, dusting you off and not letting anything get you down. You have the ability to take responsibility for what you do wrong and right. We turn the negative into a positive. their 2008 training straight out of high school. They built a fervent following through hermetic consistency on Balancing Survival and Happiness [2014], New Strength [2015] and Nomad [2017]. The latter has impressively clocked over 6 million cumulative streams with “The Hammer” topping 2.6 million on Spotify and “Antpile” topping 1.1 million. Meanwhile, cheers came from Metal Hammer, Alternative Press, New Noise, and more as the boys spun tirelessly. Absolute. Taking advantage of a full month to create, they changed the process, recording the drums last for the first time. Additionally, Randy provided space for Matt to hone his voice. These techniques enriched the sound punch. “Everything could be bent around the drums, and that allowed for better vision, to be honest,” Matt continues. "That's how Randy records bands now. It gave us more space to think. We were able to shape everything exactly how we wanted. It changed the game. The best thing about this record was the learning curve we went through. “The first single “Self-Destruct” presents their evolution. Backed by airtight riffs, the track rolls through eerie samples and guttural growls before winding down to a brutal respite of lonebassand drums. “The polarization between ordinary citizens of our country is unlike anything I have ever experienced,” he sighs. “In person, we can have logical discussions and conversations as friends. On social media, it's incredibly toxic. They prey on each other's necks 24/7. If we continue, we will self-destruct. Everyone is a ticking time bomb. You can't do or say anything without someone taking offense.

Get the shot

The standard bearers of the Quebec hardcore scene are back with “Merciless Destruction”. In continuity with “No Peace In Hell” (2014) and “Infinite Punishment” (2017), GET THE SHOT's fourth album continues its evolution towards new territories of extreme music, without however denying its hardcore roots and its fiercely DIY.

After infusing thrash influences to “Infinite Punishment”, GET THE SHOT this time incorporates elements of death metal and beatdown on “Mecriless Destruction”. Over countless tours around the world, the band have taken inspiration from many bands along the way and refined their sound, while drawing inspiration from some of the best heavy artists such as Obituary, Cannibal Corpse and Machine Head.

On “Merciless Destruction,” GET THE SHOT cements their independent approach despite a tedious and pitfall-filled recording process. A clear direction, a group at the top of its game and an unwavering dedication are still at the heart of the approach of the group whose anchoring in the hardcore community has never been so solid.

After more than 500 concerts on three continents, including some on the biggest international stages such as Hellfest, Jera On Air, Summerbreeze and Groezrock, the five members continue to tirelessly uphold the values of authenticity, integrity and integrity. equality which are at the heart of the hardcore movement, while approaching with a disillusioned realism the shortcomings of an era fractured by a blinding individualism.

With GET THE SHOT, we have things as they are: straightforward, without sweetener. Reality is brutal and cruel and our ability to accept it in its entirety determines our ability to face and overcome it.

Belmont

Like the sprawling suburbs that surround their hometown, BELMONT's music is expansive – sometimes bordering on the limitless. The Chicago trio are confined only by their own ambition, happily blending pop-punk, metal, jazz fusion, hip-hop, math rock and more into an underground adrenaline whirlwind of deliriously complex, yet deliciously engaging .

The band – Taz Johnson (vocals), Brian Lada (drums, guitar, programming) and Jason Inguagiato (guitar) – went from high school friends to what Rock Sound hailed as "probably the next great pop-punk band." with razor-sharp sound capable of stacking up alongside the heavy hitters of the genre's new decade. Their 2016 EP Between You and Me and 2018 self-titled album (the latter reaching No. hinting at larger influences lurking beneath the surface of their prog-punk sound.

These new sounds are fully unleashed on AFTERMATH, the band's debut album on Pure Noise Records, driving a chasm between Belmont and their peers with a startling – but perhaps unsurprising – evolution. Driven by the classical training of Inguagiato and Lada, who both studied at Berklee College of Music, as well as the sheer instinctive prowess of the collective, AFTERMATH showcases never-before-seen influences in a whole new way.

Alongside billion-stream producer Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, Neck Deep, Real Friends), Belmont entered the studio in the summer of 2021, recording records by up-and-coming hip-hop artists like Pouya and Terror. Reid while casting their own songs, stacking their Jenga musical tower as high as humanly possible.

“We are a very collaborative group,” says Inguagiato. “We did a ton of writing in the studio, where everyone could get their hands in and mix shit up. »

In a landscape more gendered than ever, it's the seamless and sometimes effortless blending of disparate sounds that guides AFTERMATH on a hyper-modern tour through musical styles – underpinned by the pop-punk energy that has won over fans of the legions of Belmont on tour with the likes of Sleeping With Sirens, Grayscale and Such Gold.

The opening strains of the album's kickoff "Fully Sent" - a battery of trilling snares backed by a distorted vocal sample - will leave listeners wondering if they've in fact picked the right record, before all doubts are allayed as the band rush into punishing breakdowns, biting vocals and intricate guitars.

Lead single 'Parasitic' serves as a darker, heavier take on Belmont's raucous sound, while 'What I Lack''s ethereal pop-punk bounce recalls their early material, now updated with a sleeker sheen. Those electro-heavy moments bubbled up on the band's 2021 Bowser Mixtape EP (featuring mosher nu-metal "Pain Now" and Chicago drill-influenced "Bowser's Castle, both of which appear here) and are now ready to serve the 12 AFTERMATH albums. tracks as a model for other forward-thinking acts.
And then there's "Country Girl," arguably the least Belmont song to date, which is sure to turn heads among new and established listeners alike with its decidedly pop-meets-metal-meets-country identity and its storytelling in character.

"I started writing it as a meme, thinking 'Fuck it. Who cares what other people think? “, recalls Johnson laughing. “I thought everyone would hate it, but Andrew Wade took a lot of interest in it. He's actually into folk and country music, so he was super happy to finally put banjo on a song.

In a way, it's the joyous absurdity of a song like this that serves as Belmont's most faithful representation of where they are as artists in 2021, utterly uninterested in doing anything other than what they moves. The songs on AFTERMATH aren't jokes – sometimes they're extremely serious – but they're all underwritten with a spirit of excitement that ultimately makes the album as great to listen to as it was for the trio to create it. . .

"There's a lot of serious stuff on this album...it's personal and vulnerable and I hope people can relate to it. But at the same time, the manufacturing process taught us to remember to have fun,” says Johnson.

“All our influences are here, and we put them in a big melting pot,” adds Lada. “More than anything, I just hope that this album inspires people to just give a fuck and do what they want. » XX
