Tumultes

Suoni Per Il Popolo, Codes d'accès and le Labo de musique contemporaine de Montréal - Montréal Contemporary Music Lab Tumultes Xavier Ménard and Vincent Fillion // Stéphanie Castonguay With their new audiovisual work Tumultes (25 minutes), Vincent Fillion and Xavier Ménard deal with environmental distress and urban frustration. These include the use of several media, fixed or online, dealing with waste, contaminated/abandoned sites, as well as air, noise and light pollution caused by industries and urban sprawl. Using their invented instrument, the spring board, the creators work to produce a wide range of sounds by manipulating various objects and micro-contacts. Their live performance is matched by a visual device combining LED lights and projections. The first part of the concert goes to Stéphanie Castonguay, welcomed by the Labo as a guest artist. By using multiple obsolete electronic devices that respond to his body language and luminous or tactile stimuli, the artist produces works with complex and captivating sounds. Tumultes is created thanks to the joint CDA x LMCML residence offered by Codes d'accès, following the selection of the duo through the PORTAL call for projects in the fall of 2018.
